Arts and Props Assistant Skills Bootcamp
All Spring Media is collaborating with Art Department to deliver the Art and Props Assistant Skills Bootcamp.
The Skills Bootcamp is a free industry training programme based at Sky Studios Elstree, the UK’s newest state-of-the-art film and TV studio. It will teach industry-specific skills and processes to give learners confidence as Assistants and will teach insider tricks of the trade to make them great Assistants.
Learners will hear from trainers across five departments who collaborate to deliver the Production Design on a film or TV show. These departments include Props, Set Decoration, Art Direction, Graphics and Set Building (materials and practical skills). Each trainer will introduce their department and teach the knowledge and skills required for Art and Props entry-level roles with practical exercises.
Art Department is an agency and diary booking service that exclusively represents professionals working in the art department. With 30 years’ experience in this niche and diverse area of the industry, they have looked after crew at all levels, from Production Designers to Assistants and all the vital roles in between.

ELIGIBILITY
– Aged 19 years old or over
– Right to Work and Live in the UK
– Not in education, funded training, or enrolled on a Skills Bootcamp
– Interest in an art department career within the Film and TV industry

– Roles and responsibilites of the team
– The structure and process of a film and commercial shoot
– Production paperwork
– Work etiquette – how to impress and get ahead
– CV and employability skills
– Invoicing – how to get paid and keep on top of your earnings
Props: Understand and use prop notes correctly; Tips and tricks to clean and age props; Make and assist with ‘rigs’ to create prop magic.
Set Decoration and Buying: Break down a drama script page or storyboard; Create clear and attractive mood boards; Photograph props and furniture for selection.
Art Direction: Understand and use a set drawing; Survey interior and exterior locations; Scout ‘cheated’ locations.
Design and Practical Skills: Studio, Set & Scenery: what to build where; Practical dressing skills and demonstrations; The magic of faking it – paint effects and more.
Graphics: Handle, store and accurately label graphics; Basic clearance regulations Research, reference and create a ‘Hero graphic”.
