Spotlighting and Tackling Skills Needs for The Film and TV Industry

Training provider All Spring Media launches new Skills Bootcamp to progress 3rd Assistant Directors to 2nd Assistant Directors as productions resume.
Launching in January 2024, Moving Up to 2nd AD is a free Skills Bootcamp set to develop 3rd Assistant Directors’ (ADs) existing knowledge and skills to prepare them for 2nd AD work opportunities.
Supported by Sky Studios Elstree, the UK’s newest Film and TV studio, learners will experience an exclusive tour of their facilities and an industry talk from their Head of Operations.
Martina Porter, Managing Director of All Spring Media, has said: “Given our experience working on productions and interacting with crew, we have seen the need for an upskilling programme such as this. Nurturing talent and creating equal opportunities for industry entrants is core to All Spring Media’s mission.”
Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the industry strikes over the last few years, crew shortages and deficiencies have become a prominent challenge that Skills Bootcamps look to address.
Moving Up to 2nd AD will prepare current 3rd ADs to progress their careers by the time productions resume their usual activities. It is for those with at least four credits working as a 3rd AD or Set Production Assistant or two years’ relevant industry experience.
The two-week programme uses a hybrid model to deliver training from current industry practitioners who are experts in their fields. The content includes the AD roles, safeguarding and child licencing, scheduling and managing a shoot, managing a team, production paperwork, and other topics relevant to the 2nd AD position.
All Spring Media is an independent training provider that prioritises the learners’ experiences while meeting the industry’s needs. They advocate for industry representation for those from underrepresented groups and lower socio-economic backgrounds. All Spring Media’s funded training programmes teach the required knowledge and skills free of charge to increase accessibility.
Moving Up to 2nd AD is the second initiative to join All Spring Media’s Skills Bootcamps package, with the first being the Skills Bootcamp for Production Assistants.
